For the entire month of March, I posted 1 photo from everyday of my life.
The first day was a candid shot of my pup, Charlotte. She’s my not-so-loyal but wonderfully-travellable beagle-hound mix of a dog. This project, along with my 1 Second Everyday project, has really helped me realize how much time we spend together. I am sometimes subconsciously worried that I don’t spend enough time with her, since we are (both) always on the run…but being able to chronicle her in this month-long journey was fantastic! She was my last shot, as well.
There were a few things that stood out to me through doing this project. More than anything, I wanted to use this project as a way to show my everyday life. I often get asked to share here-and-there blog posts about what I do on a daily basis. Not thinking the masses would be too interested, I thought a one-a-day project would be much more interesting and, obviously, episodic. From a disability standpoint, from going to live music shows to a large multi-week festival to hanging out with my friends, I also wanted to show others that there are many things within the realm of possibility – disability or not – if you put your mind to doing it and, also, have a supportive network and community around you.
I really enjoyed the changing weather. March was a great month to do this. If you look at March 5, there is a ton of snow on the ground. I was at home just outside of Washington D.C. Fast forward to one week later in Austin, Texas and the weather was actually a close replica to what was going on back home – no snow, more sun, and much warmer temperatures!
Embedded in this project is also the people that I get to meet everyday. From friends at South by to reuniting with old friends, it was a great way to reflect on the many connections, old and new, that were cemented over the course of the month.
SXSW, of course, was one of the reasons I chose March for this project as well. Attending all of the events down in Austin, Texas for two weeks will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of my year.
There were also many Adventures in D.C. and a great deal of time spent with my best friends, discovering new adventures and just getting to reconnect, especially after I got back to the area.
With as many adventures, I definitely had to budget some time for recovering from being sick and the necessity of running everyday errands. Overall, I feel like this project just showed me a great deal of how I choose to spend my time:
working hard so that I can play harder.
Soon, I’ll share an update on the 1 Second Everyday project – where I’m taking a one second video of my life everyday, and will share the culminating video at the end of 2015.
Until then…thanks for reading! :)
